Hello Supporters and Cleveland Community,
We are writing to keep you informed of the conversations being had behind the scenes here at Rust Belt Riders. Daily, we have been having whole-team check in calls to both keep one another apprised of the changing environment, but also to strengthen our relationships. The most important question we’ve been working on is “What is most in the interest of public health, continuing to service our clients, or pausing services until the peak of COVID-19 cases has passed?”
Our answer to this question arose out of our commitment to community benefit. While diverting food from landfills contributes to public health, flattening the curve to benefit the healthcare systems should be the priority of businesses at this time. It is with both a heavy heart and a commitment to the future of fighting food waste with you, that we have made the decision to temporarily pause our services.
While this might not be the best thing to do for our business, it is the best thing to do for our community. We have chosen to follow the clear and consistent advice of medical professionals and do our part to temporarily minimize the public’s exposure to one another.
We are currently planning to restart services when public health officials have made it clear that our activities can be carried out without jeopardizing public health.
Know that this has not been an easy decision for us to come by. Whether it is climate change, or a global pandemic, when the evidence is clear, we must act. We hope that our deep care for you is known widely, we are eager to have the continued opportunity to serve our community in the safest, most socially responsible way.
We feel that now more than ever, checking up on one another and cultivating care with our friends and loved ones can bring us unprecedented strength. It is with this that we promise to check in with you and remain a resource to the Northeast Ohio community. We are in the early stages of planning online workshops, training, and engagement opportunities. As more details emerge, we hope you will join us for these gatherings. Feel free to reach out to us with any food waste or compost questions. In the meantime, if you, like many of us, are starting your seeds, feel free to find our soils at tilthsoil.com.
Whether you are a current client or a concerned member of the public we welcome comments, questions, and other dialogue at this time. Please utilize our chat function on our website, email, or call us. We are here for you and we are all in this together.
In Gratitude,
Rust Belt Riders
